A meetup with the ol’ friends

I’ve been too busy these days despite being on a study break now, rather than on holiday break as I still have to attend German lessons at Goethe Institute every weekday from 10am to 12.30pm. Those of you who learns a third language will understand that language lesson every weekday consecutively is no joke. It can be mentally and physically draining. And urgh, I still have yet to get any thesis topic and time just keeps slipping by.

This post should have been up long ago!!! I finally met up with YN and WF on 3rd July at JP!! I’ve been seeing WF more often this year, but YN that woman… I haven’t seen her… since don’t know when!! I think probably WF’s 21st last year.

Headed to MOF for dinner and then to Bakerzin for desserts! I shall just keep everything shorter and sweeter. And we saw an old classmate of ours at MOF as well. HAHA, talk about coincidence.

MOF @ My Izakaya
Jurong Point 2 #03-42

I ordered Salmon Belly Curry ($13.80) because I really love jap curry a lot! But this one was abit disappointing though, the amount of salmon wasn’t enough for me, and I had to keep rationing it! Not enough curry for me as well too. My salmon belly curry does not come with rice, so I got a bowl of rice for $1.50! Most of the mains don’t come with rice too. Iced water costs $0.30, YN ordered a pot of hot tea for $1.50. She didn’t know that it comes in a pot, with a stove somemore! Haah. In the end she couldn’t finish. Had a good time with them reminiscing about the secondary school days!

Bakerzin for desserts! Hehe, WF and I each got a cake, YN didn’t get any. No photog allowed for the display of cakes. Got a tiramisu cake ($6.50) and Blackforest Cheesecake ($6.50). The tiramisu is the bomb!! Blackforest CC didn’t do too badly, the first few mouthfuls were great but cheesecake being cheesecake, people get sick of them after too many mouthfuls. So I think it’s good to share. But the tiramisu was so nice I think anyone can polish it off. Bakerzin has very awesome desserts IMO, and I think it’s really a good place to catch up with all your friends! I still remember the very delightful Strawberry Panna Cotta I had before! Such a long name but it’s nice that’s why I remember it. I had mains the first few times I was there (same outlet) and the mains didn’t disappoint me as well. Good to try!

the photo just doesn’t do justice to it

Writing this post just makes me relieve all the good times, and I think I’m going to blog more often. Cheerios.

Poulet @ JP

HARLOW!! I think WF has been waiting for this post damn long. Lol, she kept asking me to do a post on Poulet when we went there on 13 June. I bypassed other posts for this! Kays, we went to Poulet to “celebrate” our birthdays since we’re both June babies. TBH, I’m not a person who’s really hung up on celebrations etc, I’m more of a sit down together with friends and laugh! Anyway this is also a meet up since the last time we both met was a month back (or earlier). Too bad YN cannot come, I haven’t seen that woman for damn long!!! ><

Initially we thought that JEM would be opened on 11 June, so our plans for dinner were somehow circulated there. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, JEM only opened on 15 June, thus spoiling our plans for dinner there. Been to Jcube far too many times, so I said JP’s Poulet! I’ve always wanted to try Poulet when it was at Bugis, however the queue was always really long meal times so it’s really great when they opened an outlet in Jurong Point, so much nearer to my house!

I took this pic only after we left.

We went in around an early 6, there weren’t much people, surprisingly. No need to queue at all!! We ordered the famed chicken, 2 bowls of mushroom soup and tiramisu! There’s not much items on the menu, not as extensive as I thought. It’s mostly meat dishes. I think ordering the mushroom soup was a mistake though. It was really creamy and I got really sick of it after 6 mouthfuls. And the portion wasn’t small also. Was downing water to clean away the taste. Oh ya, there’s no iced water, only warm water which costs $0.50. The iced water comes in form of a bottle I think.

Mushroom Soup $5.80

So here comes the famed Poulet Roti Half that Poulet is quite famous for! Sorry to fans of this, but I had the soup before the chicken came, so the taste was somewhat marred. The sauce for the chicken is pretty similar to our mushroom soup -.- only abit sweeter. I suggest not having the soup if you’re ordering the chicken unless you’re a big fan of creamy stuff. The chicken as WF put it, tasted like herbal chicken. Poulet actually had the chicken with cranberry sauce, maybe that one would be nicer, tastes Christmassy to me. Anyway we ordered only half a chicken and was quite full, so I can’t imagine a person eating this alone… hmm might be possible if you didn’t have the soup.

Poulet Roti Half ($15.80)

Lastly, our dessert: TIRAMISU!! As recommended by WF! It was the saving grace of the dinner. It was so good. For $7.80, it’s definitely worth it. And the portion is so huge that two of us were struggling to finish it. I will even just go to Poulet and order this only. Nuff’ said, try it for yourself.

Tiramisu $7.80

We headed to Jcube after that to check out the miyoc offline sales but there’s nothing much there so we went home!

OldTown White Coffee

18 May 2013;
One day after my exam and after the previous night at Coastal Settlement for dinner, impromptu dinner with yk again! He had class on a Saturday and just nice I was out too, so dinner at JP’s OldTown White Coffee because I was craving for asam laksa.

Old Town White Coffee (Jurong Point)

Jurong Point Shopping Centre

As the name suggests, there’s traditional coffee with toasts and mains like nasi lemak, chicken chop, laksa, curry chicken etc. However, the funny thing was that I couldn’t find set meal of toast, coffee and eggs like Ya Kun -.- so we ordered our coffee and toasts individually.
Note: Plain water costs $0.50, not free.

A just-okay kind of coffee that’s cold? Could use abit more sugar though, or maybe we didn’t stir properly.

Nanyang C Kopi $3.20

Previously we ate at Toast Box (haven’t do the review yet), the curry chicken was not nice. Sad amount of chicken, potato and only rice. But OTWC’s one is different! It has cucumbers, and this cucumber-pineapple-sour-spicy salad and some crackers. Generous amount of 2 chickens parts (thighs probably) and 1-2 potatoes. This was nicer too!! I love curry and laksa! 🙂

Together with the rice, curry chicken! ($8.20)

I actually wrote the serial number of our toast wrongly, and we ended up with steamed bun with butter and peanut butter. I was like OO did we order this??? And then yk said I wrote 20 instead of 02 😦 But quite unique though, I’ve never seen bun coming in those xlb baskets. Anw we ordered the original kaya toast also, but didn’t take photo.

20130518-195727.jpg

steamed bun with kaya and butter $2.5

Haha I love it! But it’s abit spicy for me, though it’s still very ssssSSSHHHHOOOIIIKKKKKkkkk.

Asam Laksa $6.20

Showing off the bread machine that’s at my house downstairs. YAY no need to go over to the opposite block just to buy bread. I can have bread from downstairs too!!

Weekend

Hello all!

Finally analog circuit design lab is over yeahh!! Was super worried and nervous for my presentation because I was never a good presenter. Either I stutter, go through the slides very fast or no eye contact with the audience. And it reminded me so much of my OP back in J1. Horrid. But last friday’s one went quite well because in the midst of our presentation, Dr T went out to receive a call and the class just told us to skip to the last part which is the results slide and then Q&A session. I guess it’s rather boring for everyone as everyone did the same circuit -.- Q&A part.. tsk got quite a few unexpected questions and even though we kinda prepared for it but still the answer came out….errr. Okay. ‘Nuff said.

Anyway I’ve been spending half the weekend doing up report and the other half just relaxing, chillax, watching my GSZL drama, playing candy crush (at level 147 already OH YEAHHHH!!)

So on Friday after school, yk and I went out to have our one and only date for the week, yeah I don’t get to see him alot during the past week due to lab and him having minor lab as well. Headed to JP!! Every food place was damn crowded la, initially we settled for MOF but there’s queue and I suddenly didn’t feel like eating it so after walking one super big round up and down JP I and II, we decide to go for Din Tai Fung!! Partly to satisfy for XLB cravings and actually nothing else already. Anw while we were queueing, since toast box was beside, yk told me he feel like eating laksa -.- actually me too but we already queued for the food at DTF.

Din Tai Fung
Jurong Point Shopping Centre

Closed at 10pm.

So we ordered one fried rice with egg, one basket of 10 XLB and a bowl of vermicelli with pork? Not sure what the latter is but it looked really unique when the food came. We had a good waitress in the area we were sitting!! I’m not sure how to elaborate but she seems to be nice and attentive, she came by to refill our tea quite alot of times. Total cost of meal is $30.

20130317-222147.jpg

XLB!! YEAH!!! I still prefer Paradise Dynasty’s one though. The fillings taste much better?
20130317-222217.jpg
The vermicelli. Weird right. We were like O.O when the food came. I was wondering where the noodles was!! it’s all hidden below. Actually the noodles is dong fen. Glass noodles, the transparent one!

Hope everyone have a great weekend because mine went well!

Oh wells, back to reality tomorrow -.- Digital Circuits Design Lab Course. 😦 Good luck to all of us.

An eventful Wednesday

Had quite an exciting wednesday last week because we went to amanda’s hall in ntu to find her!! Finally got to see her hall!! Her roomie is moving away so there was only 4 of us inside. We signed up for sundown as well!!! HAHA crazy us. We visited amanda during her 2hour break before her next lecture at 4.30pm then sending her off to lecture and the three of us head to canteen 1 at hall 1 to have the xiaolongbao which amanda said was nice! Ntu really has alot of stairs :S maybe that’s why they’re organisers of vertical marathon.

Initially we ordered one xlb basket which contains 6 xlb for $3.50. But we just got addicted to it so we ordered another basket. I didn’t find it extremely nice but it’s just like any xlb though it’s much cheaper than outside. For the same price, we can only get about 4. Headed to can2 at hall 2 to get teh bing because the one at can1 was just too ex.

20130126-223619.jpg

Waited for amanda to end her lecture and we went off to jurong point to try malaysia boleh!! I was feeling damn sian cz there’s simply too many people but luckily we got a seat after 10 mins, which was near the entrance and not so smelly. Haha. I didn’t take photos of all the food because we were all hungry and the first thing I want to do when the food was on the table is to eat. The queues are all so long. We bought Claypot rice, wanton mee, prawn mee, char kway teow, fried oyster, chendol, and 4 cups of longan luo han guo! The fried oyster and char kway teow had the slowest queues. Claypot rice was quite fast!! My favourites were claypot rice and char kway teow, and the luo han guo drink!! It’s sweet and has longans inside, small cup costs $1 and the big one costs $2!! The fried oyster tasted nice when it’s just freshly cooked but it has a long queue and quite expensive for a small portion.

20130126-223603.jpg

the drink stall as I was saying! it’s just right infront of the entrance!

20130126-223536.jpg

20130126-224050.jpg

this should give you an idea of what stalls there are!

It’s always very nice to meet up with amanda, rachel and alicia! Because we just keep talking and laughing!! Can’t wait to see them this friday for some chomp chomp!! When we meet, we just eat.

/edit: We spent about $7 each for 7 different food! Haha worth max!

Yk got me a fuel pack when school started last monday! I wonder how I’m going to finish all these. I’m not even halfway. And because school ends early plus the module is of certain interest to me, I hardly need food to keep awake, though I kept drooping today. Haha. Just heard that we got back results for one of the modules, EMFT. I was so shocked when I know my result, totally unexpected. Not the best but it seems as though I’m finally climbing out of the range I always fall into. Gotta go down to the office tomorrow and see the results for myself. I just want to thank my wonderful tutor for being such a good teacher! She will definitely have a bright future. I think she’s only my age but she’s in a teaching position already. Anw, I hope it doesn’t rain today, I want to run!!
